Introduction
Fat America / Fit America was created to give motivated men and women the tips and strategies necessary to achieve real health and fitness results. We’re not trying to sell you a miracle pill, product, or program. Instead, we will give you practices you can adopt to live a healthy, fit lifestyle. We don’t mean to offend or upset anyone, but we aren’t going to candy-coat anything either (because after all, sugar is one of the biggest enemies in the war on our waistline). The heart of our message is not to judge people, but to analyze patterns and recommend effective habits that will help you reach your own health and fitness goals. This site will combine “tough love” with honest solutions and guidance to provide information that we hope will help you change not only your body, but your life.
There is no shortage of people, both with good and bad intentions, trying to fight America’s Weight Loss War. There are hundreds of gurus, thousands of books, and millions of programs geared towards helping you improve your health and lose weight. Everyone claims they have the secrets to solving the problem, yet no one seems to be winning the actual war.
If all of these intelligent and savvy people are on the case, why do we remain at the bottom of the health and fitness barrel, and heading in the wrong direction? There are plenty of diet and exercise programs that look great on paper, but don’t seem to be working in real life situations. The billion-dollar weight loss industry is expanding, yet our waistlines and disease risk factors are exploding. What gives?
Health care professionals and fitness geeks can argue over the scientific details of various diet and training protocols into eternity. But if you, the target audience, tunes out, goes sits on the couch, and eats Ding Dongs all day because we haven’t taught you some of the more practical tools you need to succeed, then all of the scientific research and program design skills in the world become meaningless.
This isn’t the lab, classroom, or crossfire debate. This is the beach, pool, wedding aisle, bedroom, or unfortunately for some, the doctor’s office. Theory doesn’t matter when tangible results are of utmost importance. There is a lot of good information out there that remains undiscovered or unapplied because it is not efficiently getting across to the audience that needs it most. All the science behind “why” we should be doing things is important, but the “what” we should actually be doing is everything.
That’s why we started this website. In our selfish quest to transform our own bodies, we’ve read and researched on a daily basis. We’ve investigated every possible resource — from research journals and textbooks all they way down to commercial diet books and mainstream magazines. We’ve also picked the brains of other successful fitness competitors, models, trainers, and healthcare professionals.
You know what we learned? That despite the infinite amount of information out there, real world results always boil down to a few practical principles. After grinding and sifting through all of the complex science, marketing fluff, and fitness myths, we’ve been able to pick out the common, universal themes in the most effective fat loss programs.
It is NOT revolutionary diets or infomercial programs/products or miracle supplements that are the keys to fitness success. The real secret is that there are no secrets. Effective fat loss always comes down to a handful of basic principles applied consistently in the real world. It is simple lifestyle habits that separate the 2/3 of our population who are overweight from the mere 1/3 who are not, and the probably less than 5% who are in top shape. There are major differences between the way these groups of people approach fitness training, nutrition, and psychology, and that’s why their results are different.
